Strange Things.......

So, when I'm not in school, and I don't have a test, and I'm not scheduled to work.... I spend some time snoozing on the couch. Why? I don't know, it's not like my couch is overly long or even fits me well at all.... but I like snoozing in the living room on the couch. That is where I was one Friday afternoon not long ago, when my phone rang... It was my friend Tracy from the Health Department...

"Hi SayWhat, Ummm... we are having this meeting and it's about your insurance, and well... we were wondering if you'd come talk about your experience with the insurance and your coverage."

Me-- "Huh?"

Fast forward one week, and I find myself in a car on my way to Grand Rapids to speak at this little meeting.... this meeting that involved SENATORS and HEALTH CARE REFORM! Crazy! So I go to this little meeting and there were about 50 people in the room a couple of senators and a bunch of people who wanted to present options for Michigan residents who are un-insured. Now, mind you I know nothing about what they want me to say or what I'm supposed to do, but I listen and I start to get a picture in my head. I finally lean over and ask the guy who brought me... "ummm... .am I allowed to disagree with these people?" Permission was granted so that was all I needed. lol

The time came and they introduced me and handed me a microphone. I think we all know how at home I am with a microphone and, well.... talking. So I just started talking. I explained how being uninsured is stressful and I talked about the changes my life has taken to make me uninsured and how this insurance has been such a help bla bla bla. Then I nicely lam-basted the morons who suggested that everyone who is on unemployment be MANDATED to pay $150 a month for insurance.

When I was done the guy I was with leaned over and whispered "Good job." And I already 8 shades of read and nervous as all get out so I just shook my head. Then Mr Senator dude called me back to the microphone to ask me a few questions and I answered and then our time was done.

When we were all done the guys who brought me were all happy and thanking me that I had come, they said I did such a wonderful job and was a great help. The big wig then asked for my contact information and wanted to know if I'd be willing to come to more of these things and speak on the behalf of us poor white trash folk. I said sure, because me and my big mouth will go anywhere for free food and gas cards.

When I got home that night there was an email waiting for me from the big wig thanking me again and letting me know he'd be in touch. Well... he was in touch again and sent me another email asking me to review some documents and provide some feedback on what I thought about them. Then he wanted to know what I thought about a few other things. So I emailed him back and gave him some ideas "off the top of my head" and I heard from him again......it said....

Thank you for looking over the documents and providing feedback. I shared your comments with the group today and we decided to solicit additional feedback from folks in Grand Rapids, Bay City, Traverse City and Kalamazoo. I'll share their the feedback we get from them with you once I get it.

Also, I'll keep you in the loop as the legislative process unfold and let you know about opportunities for you to represent yourself and others in discussions.

Thanks again

Not to bad for the ditz with the frizzy hair and big mouth.... not bad at all, eh? And what on earth do you make of that????? I didn't know what to take from that reply. To me it seems like he thinks I'm a moron... but then again, I'm a girl and I can read a lot into a sentence. It's an art really.

I guess I'll wait and see perhaps I'll get another phone call, maybe an email... until then I think I'll just snuggle back up on my couch and take a little nap. :)
