Music

I love the way that music instantly takes you back. I was thinking of this today when I pulled out my old tape and put it in to play my Happy Birthday song. This is a ritual that developed years ago in Gaylord when I was rooming with a gal who taught at the local Christian school. On our birthdays we'd pull out this song and pop it in and wake the other person up with the song blaring and then we'd be stupid and dance around the house while the song was on repeat. Hey... it was Gaylord.... we were bored.

The tradition died off after I met my ex and he thought it was kinda stupid, and seeing that he didn't fully appreciate, nor get into, the whole dancing around yelling happy birthday to ones self and hollering about being catholic... well... the tradition died... abruptly. However, I found the tape and dusted it off today and it has kept me great company. I popped it in and was instantly transported back to that goofy apartment on Petoskey street with my goofy roommate having a ball. (only this time the one dancing with me was a very short, adorable boy who named his dance the "Potty" dance, then promptly took off for the bathroom!)

It got me to thinking about everyone in my life and how each of them have some sort of song attached to them. Especially on this tape... there was

Aerosmith- Angel... that one reminds me of dinner with Jaime and Herb...
Offspring- Self Esteem... that reminds me of my brother because he used to LOVE That song, and had the CD hidden either a) under his mattress or b) in the wall so that mom didn't find it. lol
Aerosmith- Janies Got A Gun... reminds me of Rhett... not because he has a gun, though he may, but because he let me borrow his CD to copy the song.

then there are the songs I automatically attach to people....

Gretchen Wilson-- Redneck Woman.... MY SISTER... it will always and forever be her song. She owns it. I swear her and Gretchen hung out at some point in time.
Pussy Cat Dolls-- Loosen Up My Buttons.... sooooooo Jeanne, and oddly enough... Cal. lol
Trick Pony-- Pour Me... Jenny..... so Jenny ;)
Ted Nugent-- Strangle Hold... Dave, Jeanne's husband. He named his freakin truck after that song.
UB40-- Can't Help Falling In Love... yeah, yeah, I know Elvis did it first. But this was the song my first serious boyfriend used to sing to me. LOL... he was something else...that's for sure. Or perhaps I should say, he thought he was something else. lol
Edwin McCain-- I'll Be.... the song sung at my wedding.
Rod Stewart-- Who Else Is Gonna Send You.... yeah yeah, you know the rest....
The Jackson Five-- ABC... That's all you Christopher Swan!!!! and I love you for it! lol
Prince-- Kiss... again... that's a Chris song. lol
Prince-- Little Red Corvette... Andy Gobel and the Big Buck Brewery... back when it was new, and the portions were huge, and the place was just an all around awesome place to be, and they actually USED the beer tent!
Tom Cochran-- Life Is A Highway... JAIME every time I hear it, it reminds me of me, Jaime and that little blue omni that I used to drive, and we'd cruise around Grayling looking for boys. lol. Man we were dorks!
Def Leppard-- Love Bites... Jeremy and Jen at Northland when we were headed back from Iron Mountain. Shhhhh don't tell anyone, I'm still afraid I'll get demerits over that one. lol

Where is my Song...:-(

Just me said...

Kerr-- what I mean is you ARE the quintessential REDNECK woman. You embody all things redneck. It's not a bad thing. Look at Gretchen. HECK look at Pocohontas, it's no different than G-ling. Well... except they DO have the Powhatan.

**sigh** I miss the Powhatan.... :(

Michelle... When I think of you there is always a Patch the Pirate song ringing in the back of my head... go figure. lol. KIDDING Actually for some reason it's Sublime, Love Is.... I think it's because you were with Ryan when he showed me he had that CD. Again... he magically pulled it out of the wall, or from the loose board under the bed. Gotta give that guy props... he was creative in a diabolical genius sorta way.
