I played tennis yesterday for the first time in like 15yrs!!!! It was AWESOME! I forgot how much I missed it. Way back when, the summer between graduating and my freshman year at college I dated this guy who would come to town and we'd go play tennis. We played a bunch that summer with my girlfriend Jaime, or by ourselves. When he wasn't around I was playing with Jaime. And while he always kicked my butt (I still think it was because he was tall and when the ball came his way he would just do this go go gadget arm thing and crack that ball back to me) Jaime and I had a bit better luck. She was the smart one, always has been, so she taught me the rules, the score keeping, etc. Anyway.... I had a good serve and that was about the only thing I had going for me. Then I went to college and I will never forget this guy... Jeff Brown who taught me how to hold the racket to get a killer backhand. And it worked!!! Just a simple placement of the thumb and it was MAGIC! I loved tennis. LOVED it.
So my sister-in-law decided she wanted to give tennis a try. My big mouth brother said "Hey you should call my sister, she was like the tennis queen in high school." So she called, I laughed. Then I started thinking about it and I was like... why not? I'll give 'er a whirl. So I dug out the hot pink Andre Agassi (Long hair and bandanna Andrea) endorsed tennis racket and went to play. And ya know what??? It took about 3 trys to get that serve down and I had it. Then we started playing and hey we actually volleyed it back and forth a few times. And before you know it... we were actually playing tennis! It was crazy! And ok, we had to battle 2 little boys running back and forth chasing tennis balls for kicks, but overall... I think we actually eeked out a game. AND I think we did a pretty good job. I think I did a pretty good job considering the 15yr lapse from the time I picked up a racket until now. (although I would pay good money to run into Jeff Brown again, because my backhand is HORRIBLE and I could use a refresher)
The coolest part was, we played at the high school and they have the press board backs on the fence so you can actually practice hitting the ball! Hey at my school we didn't have that fancy stuff! So I am SO going to go up there and practice more often. I think the sister-in-law and I are going to go back to play again tonight. (We go in the evening so we're not in the sweltering sun!) I'm looking forward to it. (To kicking her butt) And I think it's a good workout to boot. I mean how can it not be a good workout when you're running all over 3 courts to chase down your wayward ball!
Hey... all I'm saying is Lookout Anna... I'm starting to play again, and soon Enrique will be mine!
:)
Ok I'll pass on Enrique... but it sounded good. I have to get my trash talking down, if I'm going to do this jocular love of the game thing.

Basketball and volleyball...the sport of the cool kids.
Well Rodmaster with those AWFUL deflepard comments you made I never thought you would get back in my good graces but that comment about volleyball...Your working your way back in!! :):)
