I suddenly remember why I am not an elementary school teacher! I helped out with Vacation Bible School yesterday for an age group of little kids. The youngest was 3, and she was ADORABLE and the oldest.... I'd say was going into 2nd grade. There were bossy kids, shy kids, and whiny kids. (That one was mine) I think Russell was a bit whiny-er than usual because I was there. But we nipped that in the bud. It was a BLAST... and yet...soooo not something I need to do on a daily basis for life fulfillment. :) The funny part was... it was like walking into a time warp.
I used to attend functions as this church when I was a teen. I used to go to Bible Schools put on with the same curriculum, etc. So when they were up there using the SAME cardboard cut outs that they used when I was a kid it just cracked me up. I went to grab a box of Frisbees behind the piano, and I was in this back hallway and then it hit me... THIS is where my brother broke his leg... I remember that. THIS is where my sister kissed some boy.... (hussy!) We had craft time in the basement, and I hadn't been in that basement since some New Years youth thing in like '92 or '93 when Jay was in charge of us. --Which, thinking back, Jay it was a little weird having you who was 1 yr older than me in charge...--- But then again I think I was only there because you asked me to bring my brother and sister. I was the transporter. :) Nothing had changed though. Basement still the same, tables still the same, rooms all the same. It was a cool little step back in time... only I was still old and not the goofy high schooler I once was.
It was fun though. The kids wore me out, the other gal that was the teacher was sweet as anything. (And I recognized her name. She calls my office ALL the time. She LOVES where I work. So I was on my best behavior) I don't know what the problem is though. I offered to help run some errands for the VBS workers and somehow got roped into "Helping" a class. Which is fine, but in essence I ended up being "In Charge" of game time, some of craft time, and all of quiz time. I don't get it. :) The last time this happened I offered to help my old church in the kitchen of VBS. I"m like Hey I'd love to help get food ready, and they said GREAT we can use you! The next thing I know I have a book, a CD, and a weeks worth of projects to coordinate for my class!!!! I need to learn to SHUT MY MOUTH and stop volunteering! :)
Either that or say no.
Anyway it was fun. I'm glad I did it. The people were great. The kids were great... and full of energy. So much so, that they must of drained all of mine, because I overslept AGAIN today!

I'm glad you are having fun, but I have a serious problem with churches roping in non-members to do the work they started. I understand the climate at VBS in FBC, but that really irks me. It is probably the biggest reason I didn't go. If I stayed, I would have to tell them to bugger off...or I would go to my dad's house and chill and possibly end up telling him to bugger off.
That just bugs me.
Well to be honest, I was a little surprised they even wanted me to do anything. Most churches are like you need to be a member and you need to sign here before they let you do anything. So I was surprised ESPECIALLY since I haven't even ATTENDED that church in like 2 months. But I just chalked it up to the fact that I look so sweet and christian like that they said... eeehhh she can do it. Besides Shirley chaperoned me. :)
Yeah...Shirley. Um...
God Bless her, but that's a bucketful of crazy there.
Yeah... I'm familiar with her. She calls the station a lot. I think we're best friends now. LOL
